The People Behind the Mission

Nova Gold's team continues to grow across every discipline. The operators, scientists, leaders, and advocates who make this mission possible come from every corner of the service community. Their ranks expand with every new partnership, every expedition, and every person who answers the call.

Medical Advisors

Where Care Meets the Mission.

Nova Gold's Medical Advisors bring together physicians and occupational health specialists who understand the long-term toll of demanding service. Their role is advisory, but their influence runs through everything the Foundation does. Because getting people back to purpose starts with understanding what the previous mission cost them.

Lee Williams, MD

Occupational Physician & Board Member

David Lee Williams is a Canadian Occupational Physician whose career has been shaped by a deep commitment to protecting people’s health in the places they work and live. With experience spanning North America and Europe, he has focused on helping organizations better understand and manage the complex health and environmental risks linked to industrial activity, always with an emphasis on practical, forward-looking solutions.

As Executive Director of Williams Chemical Consultancy Limited, Lee worked closely with companies of all sizes to navigate chemical risk, from hazard assessment and regulatory strategy to safer substitution and long-term stewardship. He also contributed to Minespider as a researcher and regulatory advisor, supporting more transparent and responsible mineral sourcing through emerging technologies.

During his years with Michelin, Lee helped build global approaches to toxicology and preventive medicine, developing systems that brought greater consistency and protection to employees and customers alike. Earlier in his career, he introduced innovative occupational health programs that improved worker safety, supported recovery, and encouraged sustainable return to work.

At the heart of Lee’s work is a belief in prevention, dignity, and the possibility of recovery. His involvement with the Novagold Foundation reflects a desire to support those who have experienced physically demanding or high-stress work, bringing a proactive and hopeful perspective to healing and long-term wellbeing. He is guided by the idea that meaningful change often begins with a single step taken in faith, even when the full path is not yet visible.
